Hello and welcome to my blog. I feel like I should be welcoming myself to this as its my first blog. I hope you enjoy it and don't bore you too much.
Rio Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand has been hit of late with what many would call a 'mini-scandel'. A scandal in that he has been caught playing offside with numerous woman, 'mini' in the way the press have seemed to have gone soft on him for whatever reason.
According to reports seven woman claim to have bedded the father of three while he was going out with Rebecca Ellison, now his wife and mother of his three children. Pop Idol contestant Sarah Whatmore, Brazilian madel Tatiane Rosalino, Israeli models Lilach Yafe and Tslil Sela, Topless model Holly McGuire, stripper Coralie Robinson, Catrine Shepherd, Savannah Benson, interior designer Carly Storey and Virgin air hostess Lauren Alcorn all claim to have had flings with the England Skipper. Lauren Alcorn claims Ferdinand paid £7,500 for her to have an abortion during a five-year affair.
Pretty juicy story don't you think? What make this story so remarkable is that it was merely reported one day, forgotten the next. The media just didn't bother it. The question that has to be asked is why?
Is it because to the press room this is just another footballer scandal and have already exhausted the avenue of naming and shaming these players relentlessly until their world starts crashing down around them. These footballers where hounded by the press for weeks, months and left with a broken reputation (at best). Yet all the coverage Rio got was one days worth and then suddenly the interest dropped like a rock in the ocean. Strange.
Lets face it, the British press have had an ample amount of misbehaving footballers to exploit. Lets take a minute and remind ourselves of a few of them.
Ryan Giggs – The most recent of our exposed footballers. Reported to of had an 8 month affair with Big Brother 'star' Imogen Thomas whilst also having an 8 year with his brothers wife. Tut tut
Wayne Rooney – Misbehaviour was first reported when he was caught entering a Liverpool brothel where he happened to meet 52 year old PVC clad mother of 7 Patricia Tierney (or more recognisably as the ‘Auld Slapper’).
John Terry – The Chelsea skipper commit the worst of the worst, cheating on a fellow teammates (Wayne Bridge) fiance. JT was a silly boy indeed. Wayne Bridge soon moved club to Manchester City and it wasn't long before the media hyped up the next match between Chelsea and Man City. Would they/wouldn't they shake each other hands? To be honest, I didn't really care!
David 'Golden Balls' Beckham – Reported to have had an affair with personal assistant Rebecca Loo's following suggestive texts that were released. David has since done a lot to clean up his image again while Rebecca Loo's was last seen pleasuring pigs.
So with the fall in grace of the big BIG names over the past few years, have the British media simply 'bored' the public with the same old story about overpaid greedy selfish footballers?
Possibly, but I feel its unlikely, especially with Rio Ferdinand. He's a national icon. England Captain. One of the highest profile footballers out there. Why wouldn't they want to print it?
As many would know, Mr. Ferdinand is nowadays just as much a businessman than a footballer. He has ventured greatly into the Television, film and music industries as well as owning a very successful restaurant in Manchester. Has Mr. Ferdinand used his business clout, his business/media contacts to divert the spotlight from him? More of a possibility. You could say he has somehow controlled what has been printed by the media. That would most certainly take a massive amount of power or....a massive amount stuffed into an envelope and passed under the table.
